HAYATT HOSPITAL AT AMOUD UNIVERSITY- VISION IN SIGHT

On December 2, 2011 Amoud University concluded a week-long medical training workshop at HayattHospital, Borama, with participants from Somaliland, Puntland, and South Somalia, including Dr. Hawa Abdi, winner of the 2010 Glamor Magazine Woman of the Year Award for her humanitarian work in war-torn Somalia. The training was collaboratively funded by Amoud Foundation of Dallas,USA, and Dr. Hawa Abdi Foundation of Afgoi. Experienced medical professionals with various specializations, including doctors from the Diaspora, Dr. Hawa, her daughter Dr. Deeqa, and doctors from the Amoud University Health Sciences Department conducted the training.

Hayatt Hospital, a signature project of Amoud Foundation and an affiliate of Amoud University, is slowly getting to full-capacity utilization. Staffed by a group of well-qualified doctors, both expatriate and local, and nurses from the Amoud University Medical School, with state of the art medical equipment and a dedicated and qualified management staff, this important project is poised to take off, on its way to fulfilling the original vision of making the Amoud valley the premier destination for exemplary education and healthcare in the Horn of Africa region. Dr. Hawa Abdi stated, “Many seriously ill patients in our homeland die while waiting for a passport and a visa to seek treatment overseas.

Hayatt Hospital and similar facilities give us the ability to treat such patients right here in our homeland.” We couldn’t have said it any better.    The hospital is already experiencing a flood of patients from all over the region, confirming the acute need for such a health facility.

Amoud Foundation is currently working closely with Amoud University management to assist with initial operational support.    We want to take this opportunity to pause and thank Allah (SWT) first; we also thank our board, staff, volunteers, and most of all, our generous donors around the globe who made this possible. Seeing the fruits of our labor is an important milestone to celebrate. It is also a moment to reflect and reaffirm our long term commitment to this and other important development projects in our homeland.

As is often said, many accomplishments and yet miles to go before we can afford to rest on our laurels.  Please click on the below links for the opening and closing  ceremony of the training  workshop.
